D.C. seeks to require medical marijuana discounts

Marijuana sales are underway in the District and the city has already issued a proposal that is the first of its kind.

Marijuana dispensaries in D.C. are being asked by the city to subsidize discounts for lower income patients purchasing pot.

According to The Washington Times, the prices of marijuana at D.C. dispensaries range from $380 to $440 an ounce.

Under the proposed legislation, medical marijuana dispensaries would be required to discount their pot by 20 percent for poorer patients. The dispensaries would be setting aside two percent of their profits.

No other dispensaries in the nation are required to make this accommodation. In other states, discounts are funded by the state government, not the operators of the dispensary.
