District police are cracking down on drivers who drive without a seatbelt, which is considered a primary offense. If caught driving without a seatbelt, it will result in drivers receiving a ticket with a fine of $50 and two points against the driver’s license. “Relatively minor collisions … can have devastating consequences if you’re not wearing your seatbelt, but it’s extremely rare for us to see fatalities of a person who is wearing a seatbelt unless there’s an extremely high speed rate,” Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier told WTOP’s Ask The Chief Program.
