The Virginia Department of Rail and Transportation unveiled a new plan during a public meeting which includes plans for a rail system to be made in the Virginia area. “We’re looking at how can we move people from where they are to where they want to go in the most efficient way possible,” said Amy Inman, the manager of Transit Planning for the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation. “We do have recommendations for a regional type of light rail system, as well as bus rapid transit, commuter rail and commuter bus,” Inman says.

The goal of the Transit Planning Department is to accommodate the increasing population in Northern Virginia without building more roads. They are working towards a plan that connects the region. The idea is to have transportation hubs where you can use a train, bus, or call pool. The plans ideas are not expected to be immediate, but something to work towards in the coming decades. The plan does not work out the issue of funding.
