VA bills decriminalize child prostitution

0

Various proposals have been brought forth in regards to child prostitution and decreasing the harshness of punishment on those who are forced into the sex trade.  One of the submitted proposals seeks to no longer classify child prostitution as a crime.  While another bill seeks to overturn convictions of prostitution if it is proven that the child was forced into prostitution.

The Virginia State Crime commission remained hesitant in taking action Tuesday.  Delegate Manoli Loupassi feels that these bills leave too much of a gray area in regards to child prostitution.  Loupassi believes that reversing the crime of child prostitution in the law books will only make it problematic to convict a child’s pimp.

Discrepancy amongst these proposals continues to be the cause of little governing action being taken.
