Virginia man claims $2M in Powerball winnings

A Virginia man has certainly increased his Christmas shopping budget with his winnings from the Powerball.

Sixty-six year-old Ramon Mendez won $2 million in the Powerball drawing on December 4.  He and his wife collected their winnings on Thursday.

Mendez, who is from Alexandria, purchased his ticket at the Gateway News Stand in D.C.

Mendez, who has worked as a restaurant cook for the last 30 years, will be awarded $1.5 million after taxes.

He says he is, “Very, very happy right now…Good Christmas, good New Year.”
