UVa.’s new bioprinters could end organ shortages

0

The University of Virginia’s Department of Biomedical Engineering recently acquired two three dimensional bioprinters, which can print cells into tissues. The Department is now trying to print thicker tissue that has blood flow, which is an important step in fabricating organs. There is the possibility that, within 20 years, there will no longer be organ shortages. Bioprinting, only five or six years old, can also print bones that are specific to the needs of the patient.
