The U. S. probation office has recommended for former Virginia Governor Robert McDonnell a sentence between 10 years and one month and 12 years and three months. Those close to the decision say it is not finalized, but is close. U.S. District Judge James R. Spencer, presiding over the case, is not required to follow those guidelines, but sources say he is likely to do so. McDonnell’s sentencing is scheduled for January 6. His wife, Maureen, will be sentenced on February 20. The probation office has not yet filed a recommendation for her sentence, but it is expected to be lighter than that of her husband.
