Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe has announced the measures the state will be taking in response to the upcoming $346 million deficit in the current fiscal year. The plans include 565 layoffs, most of which will be state employees who work in the Department of Corrections. The state plans on other measures, including closing one prison and delaying the opening of another, selling police vehicles and raising the mark-up on distilled spirits to fill the gap. McAuliffe warned that the next few years will also require tight budgeting.
