Gay and lesbian students will have new options for living space at Old Dominion University (ODU). In a news release, ODU reported that it will offer dedicated on-campus housing for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender students, and their supporters, beginning in the fall semester. On Thursday, the dedicated housing reported the living quarters will be called Lavender House, which will be located in an existing hall. The Army ROTC will also offer dedicated housing in the fall.

Kate Griffin, the assistant director of new student and parent programs, reported that ODU wants to become a leader in diversity in the Southeast. Lavender House already has eighteen students signed up to move in. The University of Richmond and George Mason University, both in Virginia, also offer dedicated student housing for gay and lesbian students.
