Fairfax County, Va., the largest county in the Washington metropolitan area, is reportedly giving its employees raises after ending the fiscal year with a surplus. The county ended the 2010-2011 fiscal year with a $100 million surplus in a $3.3 billion budget.
County employees will reportedly get a 1.5 percent cost-of-living increase. According to Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Sharon Bulova, most of the money will be placed into the current budget to protect against the failing economy.
