Robert Ryan McDonnell, 23, son of former Virginia Governor Robert F McDonnell and wife Maureen, was arrested early Thursday morning in Virginia Beach. Robert R McDonnell was charged with driving while intoxicated and refusing to take a blood or breath test after his 3:25 a.m. arrest. McDonnell served as a witness in the recent trial of his parents, who were each convicted on multiple public corruption charges for actions during their time in the Governor’s mansion. McDonnell, the younger, was released from at about 11 a.m. on a $2,5000 unsecured bond.
