Olympic gold medallist Michael Phelps pleaded guilty Friday to driving under the influence when he was stopped in September for speeding and crossing the double yellow line in Maryland. Phelps, 29, was driving 84 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone, and tested a .14 blood alcohol level. The legal limit is .08 in Maryland. Phelps was sentenced to a year in prison, but his sentence has been suspended; he must be on probation for a year and a half. He will continue therapy in Maryland. Phelps has been disciplined by USA Swimming, but the restrictions are unlikely to significantly affect his return to the sport in time for the upcoming Olympics in Rio.
