Alexandria man in $1million battle for fishing prize in NC

An Alexandria man is making nation-wide headlines after a contested win in a high-profile fishing competition in North Carolina that involves almost $1million in cash prize money. Peter Wann was the first mate on the the fishing boat Citation when he hooked a giant 883-lb blue marlin about 27 miles of the coast of N.C. After the crew managed to reel the enormous fish in, they marveled at their luck–that luck, however, was to be short lived. Competition officials disqualified the Citation after determining that Wann did not have a $30 N.C. fishing license at the time of the catch; he purchased one as the boat made its way back to shore. Lawyers for the second place boat are arguing that the most basic of all rules in a competition is that everyone must play by them. The case has made its way to the N.C. supreme court.
