The Virginia state Senate has passed a bill that will allow residents of Virginia to use deadly force against intruders without fear of a lawsuit. On Thursday, Senator Richard Stuart’s bill passed 23-17 and will now go to the House of Delegates, which has its own edition of the legislation. Stuart’s bill takes a longstanding common law principle known as the “castle doctrine” and makes it a state statute.
