The Redskins have already lost their first two games of the season, and some fans think Griffin just jumped back into things too soon. Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post received dozens of texts during Sunday’s postgame program from viewers who wished that quarterback Kirk Cousins had been put in instead of Griffin. Many also said that Griffin seemed unprepared and even a little scared.
Chuck Hernandez, the show’s host, posed the question: “Why not stick [Cousins] out there, who is healthy? It’s apparent from listening to you guys and watching that game: Robert Griffin III is not the same guy… yet.”
Redskins fans went into this season with high expectations for Griffin, who is still recovering from an ACL injury, and they just aren’t satisfied with his performance yet. But despite the advice of the fans, head coach Mike Shanahan has said that he will not be benching Griffin in favor of Cousins.
