Maria Sharapova pulled out of the US Open on Wednesday because of an injury in her right shoulder. She released a message on her Facebook Wednesday night which said, “”I just wanted to let you know that withdrawing from the U.S. Open has been a really tough decision to make. I have done everything I could since Wimbledon to get myself ready but it just wasn’t enough time.” She has only played one match since she lost at Wimbledon in June.

Sharapova announced that she is “taking the next few weeks off, receiving proper treatment and rehabilitation.” Play begins for the U.S. Open on Monday.
