Supreme Court to decide if it will hear gay marriage case

The United States Supreme Court has issued a statement that on November 20 it will hold a private meeting to decide if it will hear major cases involving gay marriage, not the least of which could be a challenge to the Defense of Marriage Act. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has already stated that the Court will very probably hear the topic of gay marriage during this term. The Court is likely setting the date for the meeting after the election in an effort to minimize politicizing the cases and avoid becoming a point of contention for the two presidential campaigns. The Court is also putting off hearing a challenge to Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, which requires states with histories of bias against voters to clear changes to  election laws with federal officials, until after the election.
