Romney gets protection of Secret Service

Florida primary winner Mitt Romney is seeking the protection of the Secret Service. An advisor on the Romney campaign said the Secret Service will provide security for the Republican presidential candidate beginning on Wednesday. The Romney campaign said he meets the qualifications and conditions for protection, which includes becoming a major presidential candidate, as well as a prominent public figure. Two to three former Secret Service agents will protect Romney at each event.

President Barack Obama received Secret Service protection in May 2007, Secretary of State Hilary Clinton already had protection as former first lady, and Herman Cain received protection in November 2011, until he dropped out of the GOP race in December. Democratic candidates John Kerry and John Edwards also received protection in the 2004 campaign.
