Obama aides form a non-profit organization to garner public support for his agenda

A not-for-profit organization, dubbed “Organizing for Action,” has been formed and will be led by Jim Messina, Obama’s former campaign manager. Its stated purpose is to promote public support for President Obama’s second-term agenda.

“We’ll continue to support the president in creating jobs and growing the economy from the middle out, and in fighting for issues like immigration reform, climate change, balanced deficit reduction and reducing gun violence,” Messina said. “If we can take the enthusiasm and passion that people showed throughout the campaign and channel it into the work ahead of us, we will be unstoppable.”

Messina will take on the role of national chair, while the position of executive director will be filled by Jon Carson. “I’m a Wisconsin guy,” Carson said about himself in an email to supporters, “and I grew up on a farm in the western part of the state. In 2007, I joined Barack Obama’s campaign and served as the national field director. After the election, I went to work for the President in the White House, most recently in the Office of Public Engagement. That brings me to now, when very soon, my family and I will be moving back to Chicago as I start this new role with all of you.”
