IRS Employees Knew About Controversy

0

Former IRS head, Douglas Shulman admitted on Tuesday that he did partially know about the IRS targeting of conservative groups and that he followed the right course of action to end it. He emphasized that he didn’t know the full extent of the problem because no employees brought the full story to his attention. Shulman was one of the three witnesses who appeared under oath at the Senate Finance Committee at the second congressional hearing about the controversy.

Other information revealed at the hearing included the disclosure that it was Shulman’s replacement who managed the disclosure of the controversy to the public through a planted question. The question was initially meant to generate an IRS apology from IRS official Lois Lerner, but the story was released to the public through the publication of the inspector general’s report instead. Lerner has since pleaded the 5th and is refusing to answer any further questions.
