Senator Susan Collins of Maine has become the fourth Republican senator to say she supports gay marriage. Same-sex marriage became legal in Main in 2012. Collins joined GOP Sens. Rob Portman of Ohio, Mark Kirk of Illinois and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska in the group of sitting U.S. senators who all support gay marriage. The senator was endorsed for re-election Wednesday by the Human Rights Campaign, a gay rights group. Collins is running against Democrat Shenna Bellows in November and if she wins it will be her fourth term. “A number of states, including my home state of Maine, have now legalized same-sex marriage, and I agree with that decision,” Collins said in a statement issued Wednesday.
