Bachman campaign chairman defects to Paul

Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann’s campaign chairman, Iowa state Sen. Kent Sorenson, changed his support to endorse Texas Rep. Ron Paul on Wednesday night. The announcement came as a surprise to the crowd and to Bachmann, who he did not inform of his decision until he was en route to the Paul rally. Sorenson explained that he felt Paul was the most conservative candidate who had a chance against former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Bachmann called the switch “a deliberate move by the Ron Paul campaign to discredit our campaign and our growing momentum.” She also accused Sorenson of defecting for financial reasons. “Kent said to me yesterday that ‘everyone sells out in Iowa, why shouldn’t I,’ then he told me he would stay with our campaign. The Ron Paul campaign has to answer for its actions.” Sorenson denied Bachmann’s allegations.
