Senate fails to end FAA furlough, shutdown continues

WASHINGTON – On Tuesday, the Senate failed to end an FAA partial shutdown that began on July 23 and left 4000 FAA workers out on furlough.  However, safety inspectors remained on their jobs without pay and were instructed to bill the U.S. government for travel expenses on their personal credit cards to maintain continuity and air safety during the shutdown.  The shutdown is costing taxpayers millions of dollars per day in tax revenue that is uncollected by the airline industry.

The furloughed workers could remain unemployed until after Labor Day, while Congress takes its summer break.
