Protestantism no longer dominant religion in US

For the first time in US history, Protestants are no longer the nation’s religious majority. The Pew reported that only 48% of adults identify as Protestants, as oppose to 53% five years ago. This has been attributed to the rise in the percentage of Americans who identify themselves as having no religion. According to the same study, 20% of Americans do not subscribe to any religion, a significant increase from 15% five years ago. This includes atheists as well as “spiritual” people, but all of those included in the “no religion” category are not seeking to join any other religion. This shift is reflected in the US government. This is the first election year in which there is no Protestant on the Republican presidential ticket.
