Dozens of people ill from drug-laced bread

Southern California Police conducted an investigation after a synthetic drug was discovered in special holiday bread from Cholula’s Bakery. The bakery was ordered closed last week after dozens of consumers complained of heart palpitations, dizziness, numbness and hallucinations. The bakery will not reopen until the property is professionally cleaned, all ingredients used to make the poisoned bread are thrown away and staff members are properly trained in food safety. The sweet treat is traditionally eaten on January 6 to celebrate the Latin American holiday of Kings Day. The bread was sold at the bakery and at ten other stores in Orange County and Long Beach. Preliminary lab results turned up traces of a synthetic drug, but specialists will need time to identify it. Different customers expressed anger and shock over the recent developments. The bakery’s owners apologized last week on Facebook in both English and Spanish. The owners also stated that they were ashamed over the incident and wanted to reassure everyone that the proper precautions were being taken to make sure this never happens again.
