Recently released court documents show Boston marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev had many gunshot wounds when he was arrested in April. According to the trauma surgeon who treated Tsarnaev after his arrest, one of the gunshots entered the left inside of his mouth before exiting the lower left side of his face. The surgeon, Stephen Ray Odom said, “This was a high-powered injury that has resulted in skull-base fracture, with injuries to the middle ear, the skull base, … his … vertebrae … as well as injury to the pharynx, (and) the mouth.”

Odom’s testimony was unsealed on Monday. It does not describe whether Tsarnaev gave himself the injury or if he received it when he got in a gunfight with police prior to his arrest. His brother, Tamerlan, who was also accused of committing the attacks, was killed during the gunfight.
