Pharmacist sentenced for fraud

A pharmacist in Hagerstown has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for improperly billing Medicare and Medicaid more than $200,000 for unlawful prescriptions for oxycodone and methadone.

David Russo, 62, was ordered to pay restitution and surrender his pharmacy license at his sentencing on Thursday in Baltimore.

Russo owned and operated Russo’s Rx. He filled prescriptions for oxycodone, methadone, and benzodiazepines, medications he knew were issued outside of the legitimate medical course. Russo fraudulently billed Medicare and Medicaid for those prescriptions.
