Baltimore apartment fire leaves 1 dead and several injured

The fire department says one person is dead and several others are hurt after a fire broke out in a Baltimore apartment building located on Fairhaven Avenue.

Firefighters were called to the Curtis Bay area of the city around 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday and found smoke and fire in a basement apartment. One person found in the burning building has died; another was rescued from the top floor of the building. Five others jumped from windows.

Many were taken to local hospitals, but details on injuries are not available. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
