Pioneering dermatologist Dr. Fredric Sheldon Brandt, an early proponent of Botox who was also a researcher, lecturer, author, and radio host has died. He was 65 years old. He specialized in cosmetic dermatology. Among the first to use botox and fillers, Brandt had played a crucial role in getting the injectable substances approved by the FDA for cosmetic use in the U.S. Miami police spokeswoman Frederica Burden stated on Monday that Brandt’s body was discovered at his home in the Coconut Grove section of Miami about 9:15 a.m. Sunday. Burden added the cause of death was suicide by hanging, and was reported to have been suffering from depression. Brandt had offices in Coral Gables and Manhattan and famous patients including Madonna. He launched his Dr. Brandt Skin Care line in 2001 and wrote two successful skin care books (10 Minutes/10 Years: Your Definitive Guide to a Beautiful and Youthful Appearance’ and ‘Age-less: The Definitive Guide to Botox, Collagen, Lasers, Peels, and Other Solutions for Flawless Skin). He was often referred to as the “Baron of Botox” and “King of Collagen.” For four years, he hosted the “Ask Dr. Brandt” show on SiriusXM radio, where his guests included celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Kelly Ripa.
