Police and firefighters were called to an alley near Washington Center for reports of a backpack explosion.
DC Fire says the explosion was merely fireworks placed inside of a backpack. According to reports, a person was carrying a backpack and dropped it in the alley after it began to explode. The person ran off, but the blast was described as coming from an M-80. The backpack had other fireworks in it, but no one was injured from the explosion.
Fireworks are illegal in the District of Columbia.
