103,000 new jobs created in September

September saw greater hiring than was expected, with 103,000 new jobs added by employers. Additionally, the Labor Department reported July and August were stronger than initially reported, with 99,000 additional jobs. The announcement was a welcome piece of good news amid fears that the economy was going into a double-dip recession.

137,000 jobs were created, but that was offset by the loss of 34,000 jobs in other areas. It is still an improvement from the 65,000 jobs economists had predicted. In spite of the new jobs created, the unemployment rate remained at 9.1%.
