Washington, D.C.’s acting Police Chief Pamela Smith’s nomination to become the permanent chief was unanimously approved by the District’s Council public safety committee. Smith has more than 25 years of law enforcement experience across the country.
The final vote will be next month done by the entire council. If Smith is confirmed, she would be the second woman and the first Black woman to permanently run the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department since it was founded.
