Republican Governor Greg Abbott signed a bill on Monday making entering Texas illegally a state crime. Under the bill, law enforcement can arrest migrants and judges can issue orders to remove them back to their country.
This bill is a response to a surge in migrants crossing the US-Mexico border in Texas. The bill is set to take effect beginning in March.
