In 2008, nine-year-old Jordan Taylor was internally “decapitated” after a truck crashed into his family’s car in Hillsboro, Texas as he sat in the backseat. Doctors were able to reattach his skull to his neck with a metal plate and titanium rods.
The survival rate for internal decapitation is low with almost 70% of the cases being fatal. Taylor fully recovered, which doctors called a medical miracle, and could return to school only months after the accident. “When it first happened, I was waiting to wake up from that bad dream. Now, I don’t want to be woken up from this one,” said Taylor’s mother Stacy Perez in 2008. Almost 16 years later a family is still thankful for the miracle that resulted from a near-death experience.
