Fox Studio has bought the rights to the story of Jim Obergefell, who was the lead plaintiff in the case that led the Supreme Court to rule in favor of same-sex marriage. Obergefell married his partner John Arthur in Maryland in 2013, but after Arthur’s death, the couple’s home state of Ohio would not recognize Obergefell as Arthur’s surviving spouse. Fox also bought the rights to Obergefell’s upcoming book, which he is writing with Washington Post journalist Debbie Cenziper, entitled “21 Years to Midnight: The Promise that Brought Marriage Equality to America.”
