Boy dies after he is beaten for eating cake

Hagerstown police say that 9-year-old Jack Garcia has died after he was allegedly handcuffed and beaten for eating cake without permission. Robert Wilson, the boyfriend of the child’s mother, is charged with first-degree assault and child abuse. The mother’s brother reported to police that Wilson, 30, hit the boy in the stomach as punishment for taking birthday cake. The boy’s birthday was three days before the incident.
