The Walters Art Museum has been awarded $913,000 in grants by three federal agencies for new projects and exhibits. They received a total of $500,000 from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Institute of Museum and Library Services and the National Endowment for the Arts to support an upcoming exhibit on Islamic art and culture that will be open Fall 2015. The museum will also be celebrating its 80th anniversary as a public museum with a major reinstallation of its fourth floor galleries, that will focus on the museum’s founders. The reinstallation was funded by The Richard C. Von Hess Foundation who gave $250,000. The museum will also start a two-year refurbishment of the historic Hackerman House next to the Baltimore’s Washington Monument.
