The nation’s largest Muslim civil rights organization is asking the FBI to investigate after the Manassas Mosque in Manassas, Virginia was vandalized. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) released a press release on Tuesday asking authorities “to investigate a possible bias motive…” CAIR told authorities that a security guard discovered yellow paint and obscenity sprayed throughout the mosque. Eight windows were defaced, and a glass door was shattered. The mosque has been vandalized three years ago when tensions ran high over violence in the Middle East said Abu Nahidian, the imam at the mosque. Jonathan Perok, a spokesman for Prince William County police stated that it was not immediately clear whether or not the incident was a hate crime but vandalism of any religious institution is “carefully investigated to determine the criminal intent of the suspect.”
