Alfreda Giedrojc is charged with the murder of her 6 month old grand duaghter, whom she was babysitting at her Chicago home. Giedrojc appeared in the cook county court on monday and spokeswoman Tandra Simonton reports that she is being held without bail.
The baby’s father had brought her to Giedrojc’s home while he helped a neighbor with some home repairs. Oak Lawn police say “her father and grandfather had stepped out of the grandparents’ house for a short time when this horrific event took place.” Simonton says that while the two men were away, Giedrojc attacked the baby with a sledgehammer and slit her throat.
There is no report of mental illness, and Giedrojc did express some amount of regret when questoned by police.
