Director Mike Nichols died suddenly Wednesday at the age of 83, reports his family. Nichols was one of the few EGOT winners, someone who has won an Emmy, a Golden Globe, an Academy Award and a Tony Award throughout his career. Nichols is perhaps most well known for directing the Oscar-winning 1967 film “The Graduate.” During his career in theater, Nichols won eight Tony awards. Nichols was born in Berlin, before emigrating to the United States with his parents at the age of seven. He is survived by wife TV anchor Diane Sawyer, three children and four grandchildren.
