Senator arrested for drunk driving in Alexandria

Senator Mike Crapo, a Republican from Idaho, was arrested in the early morning hours of December 23rd after running a red-light in Alexandria while apparently intoxicated. He reportedly told the arresting officer that he had had several shots of vodka much earlier in the evening, but the police report describes Crapo as having bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. The senator was charged with a DWI and with disregarding a red light. He is expected in court on the DWI charge some time next month.

In an added point of interest, Senator Crapo, who is a Mormon, has said in the past that he avoids alcohol as per his religious beliefs. He has since apologized and taken full responsibility.
