A portrait depicting the first four female Supreme Court justices was displayed at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery Monday.
The painting done by artist Nelson Shanks stands 9-feet and 6-inches tall and features Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Elena Kagan, Sandra Day O’Connor and Sonia Sotomayor. It is titled “The Four Justices”.
The piece was completed in 2012 and will hang in the gallery for three years.
Kim Sajet, the museum director, says the painting embodies the “grand accomplishments made by these four women.”
