The D.C. Council has arranged a hearing for a new bill that plans to raise the wages of large retailers. The bill will require retail stores to pay employees no lower than $11.75 per hour plus benefits.

Large retail stores are those which operate in an indoor location of at least 75,000 square feet and whose corporate parent sells up to $1 billion. Examples include Wal-mart, Costco, and Home Depot. The hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday.
