9,000 homes and businesses in the Ashburn area were without power for about two hours Tuesday evening. The outage was caused by a broken crossbeam on a utility pole along the Washington and Old Dominion bike trail. The lights cut out around 6 p.m., but by 8 p.m. power was returned to all but 300 homes. Those remaining homes were reconnected by 11 p.m. No injuries were reported, and no explanation has been released for the incident.
