Post-election anger at VA college

0

In an ill-advised and embarrassing act of bigotry in the late hours Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, a group of roughly 30 students at Virginia’s all-male Hampden-Sydney College gathered outside the Minority Student Union to shout racial slurs, set of fireworks, and taunt the students inside. College president, Chris Howard, discussed the incident in a letter sent home to parents. He reported that the participants will face consequences ranging from probation to expulsion for their actions, which run contrary to the schools strict moral code, by the school’s judiciary board. Spokesman for the college, Thomas H. Shomo, also stressed, however, that as the confrontation occurred, many more students rose occasion and stepped in to stop the rioters. No injuries were reported.
