GOP hopefuls join VA ballot suit

A federal judge allowed three Republican Presidential candidates to join the lawsuit filed by Texas Gov. Rick Perry. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum joined the motion challenging Virginia’s primary ballot laws. The lawsuit was filed last month by Perry when he failed to obtain the necessary signatures to get on Virginia’s GOP primary ballot.

Of the other candidates, Gingrich also failed to qualify, Santorum did not submit enough signatures for consideration and Huntsman did not submit any petitions. The only candidates currently on the ballot are Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Texas Rep. Ron Paul. Perry argues that the Virginia requirements are unconstitutional because they violate his freedoms of speech and association.
