George Huguely appeals to Supreme Court in Yeardley Love murder

George Huguely, a former University of Virginia lacrosse player who was found guilty of the second-degree murder of Yeardley Love in 2012, is appealing his case in the United States Supreme Court. He was sentenced to 23 years in prison for the 2010 murder. Huguely believes his Sixth Amendment right to competent assistance was violated because one of his two attorneys was sick and unable to speak during a piece of the trial. The Virginia Court of Appeals has already upheld his conviction and the Virginia Supreme Court has denied his request for a hearing twice.
