Former Iraq POW Jessica Lynch to complete teaching degree Friday

Jessica Lynch, now 28, was 19 when her company came under attack in Nasiriyah. Eleven of her fellow soldiers died, and she along with five others spent nine days as a prisoner of war. She joined the Army in order to earn money for college, and on Friday completes her teaching degree at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.

Lynch sustained injuries from her Humvee crash, including spinal fractures, nerve damage, and a shattered right arm. Her injuries still pain her, but she did not let that stop her. “It’s tough to walk, but I look at it as, ‘At least I’m walking,’” Lynch said. “At least I have my legs. They may not work. I have no feeling in the left one. But it’s attached, at least…At least I’m alive.”
