Police reported that Linwood Johnson, 49, of Oxon Hill has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the murder of Lenny Harris. Harris, 53, was an Alexandria community activist who went missing in September 2011. On Tuesday, police reported that Harris’ body was found in a Fort Washington well. Last week, an anonymous emergency caller reported a body had been deserted in the well on vacant property in the 11900 block of Old Fort Road.

Johnson gave a “full, written, and verbal confession,” said Assistant Chief Kevin Davis. Police revealed they believe a robbery was the motive and Harris was shot and killed soon after. Authorities reported they are seeking more suspects and believe Harris may have known the suspects as well. Harris lived with his wife Del Ray and was the co-founder of the nonprofit Operation H.O.P.E., which offers career development and mentoring services.
