Wilson Ramos rescued in Venezuela

Major League Baseball player Wilson Ramos says he is lucky to be alive after a two-day ordeal wherein he was captured by kidnappers who planned to demand a ransom. Ramos was freed Friday as rescuers swept into his captors’ mountain hideout. Ramos said his final moments as a prisoner were terrifying as shots were exchanged between his kidnappers and rescuers.

Ramos was abducted from outside his family’s home Wednesday night, by four men in their 20s. All four men have now been arrested, along with a 60-year-old woman and a 74-year-old man, who were arrested as accomplices for supplying food to the kidnappers. It is the first instance of a Major League Baseball kidnapping, though baseball players in Venezuela have been kidnapped before.
